Dollar ReDe$ign Project

It's Time to ReBrand the Buck

Dissecting the Dollar ReDe$ign Project : MintLife Blog

New blog post by Joshua Ritchie on Mint.com slices and dices the Dollar ReDe$ign Project. 'With faith in the US dollar hitting new lows, some believe the solution lies not in politics, but in design. Meet Richard Smith, architect of the ambitious and infectiously popular “dollar rede$ign project.” Smith is a creative strategy consultant who feels, “…our great rival, the Euro, looks so spanky in comparison,” to US currency that, “…it seems the only clear way to revive this global recession is to re-brand and re-design.” But rather than merely arguing for a new-look dollar, Smith drummed up an impressive wave of support for a redesign by allowing people to submit their own ideas to a web-based contest.'

Big in Eastern Europe : Poland Hails Economic Saviour (Rzeczpospolita)

Where Eagles Dare

Rzeczpospolita, a daily newspaper from Poland, poses the question: "Who will revive the Greenback?" Jack Nicholas? Starbucks? Burger King? Barbie? None of the above? Or Richard Smith, "the originator of the Dollar redesign contest who wants to rescue the economy of America in a time of crisis"? A tough choice ... read the full story (in Polish) here ...

The New Buck Starts Here : The Big Money

It's time to give American bills a makeover. By Kevin Kelleher. Spare a moment to consider the tribulations of the U.S. dollar. It’s not just losing ground against other major currencies — its 60-year-run as the world’s reserve currency is threatening to come to a close. In a world where brand has become the ultimate substance —where a stained name like Philip-Morris can be reborn as shiny new Altria — maybe a design makeover is just what the dollar needs. Read full article here.

Selling Out : Are We Victims of Economic Over Exposure?

Too Much Money Talk. A recent article in the Ukrainian Newsweek magazine – "Vlast Deneg" – suggests that our global financial crisis has moved away from being an economic issue towards a brand issue, which they feel can actually sell anything. However, the article also suggests that once we loose interest in the credit crunch and our mass media moves on to a new topic, the economy might actually get better. An oxymoron of sorts but perhaps they’re right. All this talk of doom and gloom, credit crisis and financial failure doesn't really get us any closer to economic recovery, it's all just talk. Real economic recovery will only happen when we all feel the need to start shopping and buying various goods and services again, until then the global financial crisis will remain a hot topic for everyone. The article also featured some of our Dollar ReDe$ign submissions to illustrate their point. Is that David Bowie shining shoes? (RS)

The Atlantic Times : Rebrand the Buck!

In Germany We Trust.
It's incredible that one nation so far from our headquarters in New York has taken the premise of our campaign to heart so dearly. Initially it was Russia who heralded our cause but more than anyone it has been Germany that has continued to rally behind our ambition, and very seriously too – it's rather perplexing but also very encouraging at the same time. The Atlantic Times newspaper is just another fine example. Published in Germany in English for the US market, the monthly newspaper presents American political and business news and opinion from a German perspective. It includes articles from many renowned politicians and journalists including the paper's executive editor Theo Sommer. About the Dollar ReDe$ign Project, Walter Pfaeffle, the paper's New York bureau chief, writes, 'America is falling apart, the greenback needs a makeover, rebranding would restore faith worldwide.' All we can say is hell yeah! and of course Danke schön!

Go USA : Money Can Look This Good : View / Stern Magazine

Germany's View magazine - Stern magazine's sister photo-journal - publishes every month some of the most extraordinary images gathered from all over the world. The August issue for instance included some incredible images of the Burning Man Festival in Nevada as well as some rather intriguing images of pigs that like to swim off the coast of Florida - who knew! The Dollar ReDe$ign Project also got a great double page spread and featured 12 of our superb submissions. Obviously, like soccer, everyone from Hamburg to Düsseldorf, and Berlin to Munich gets it. So perhaps when the Soccer World Cup (www.gousabid.com) graces us with its presence in 2018 - hopefully  - we'll also have a new currency to celebrate with too. (RS)

The US Dollar Has An Image Problem

Markus Koch Interviews Richard Smith for N-TV
In Germany, N-TV is the most important TV source for financial and stock market news. Correspondents report live from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, the Nasdaq and the Nymex, including Markus Koch.

Earlier this month Koch interviewed Richard Smith at his 'campaign headquarters' in New York for N-TV's series 'In Between.' Smith talks indepth about the online event that is quickly becoming a national phenomenon, the Dollar ReDe$ign Project. Smith says, 'in order to move forward we have to understand the past, this is not about a superficial makeover, it's about rebuilding from scratch, and maybe a way to fix our monetary problems is to rebrand our money.'jint3zd564

Don't Worry 'It's Just a Hoax!' Declares Local CBS News Channel

Breaking Story : Local CBS Eyewitness News Channel, WNCT, uncovers the truth about 'a new email' which alleges that the nation’s money is getting a makeover. Apparently 'the email claims the new bills are still primarily green and include images of the founding fathers with a distinctive colored band to designate the denominations.' Also, 'the Dollar would no longer be in bill form but replaced with one and two Dollar coins.' However, WNCT has discovered that the email was in fact just a hoax! 'The US Government didn’t (actually) commission the designs and aren’t considering replacing the currency. A graphic designer and blogger invented the bills as part of the Dollar ReDe$ign Project.' :-0
