Vertical Nostalgia : Chris Collins : Dollar ReDe$ign

“I created these currency designs whilst I was a student at the Detroit campus of the International Academy of Design and Technology in Spring 2009. I had an excellent design instructor by the name of Dan Olson who, for a final project, challenged students to rethink the US currency design, and make it more visually engaging while still being functional to it's purpose. My inspiration draws on a nostalgic, graphic feel within a vertical layout.”

Chris Collins is based in Chicago and is currently seeking employment but also freelances for a number non-profit organizations including: The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit and ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) of Michigan.

"The overarching concept is to capture various forms/ideas of 'liberty' [20] Liberty Enlightening the World (aka Statue of Liberty): Iconic as a symbol, it provides liberty and light to all people of our nation. The sonnet by Emma Lazarus ("Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free") is juxtaposed over Lady Liberty. [50] Abraham Lincoln: Considered one of the greatest presidents in U.S. history, Lincoln declares liberty to all slaves. The Emancipation Proclamation is shown. [100] Washington Crossing the Delaware: George Washington was a commander during the American Revolutionary War and often referred to as the father of his country. The crossing of the Delaware River was pivotal in defining liberty and our identity as a free nation. Additional Details: Lower Left: Holographic stripes emulating the American flag. Diagonal Band: 13 stars for the 13 original colonies."
