The More Things Change, The More We Stay The Same : Tom Renk : Dollar ReDe$ign

"There is no greater love than for someone to lay down their life for another. That commitment transcends comprehension of intent. America was born of action and has endured because of it's ability to rise to action with action. I'm not judging, I'm only reflecting. We all too often tend to cast stones while we stand in the very place that was forfeited by another."

July 4th : Dollar ReDe$ign Project : 'Competition' Winners

EVERYONE’S A WINNER!

We are happy to announce the winners of our Dollar ReDe$ign ‘competition’ and boy what a ride we’ve had over the last few weeks. We’ve been called crazy liberals, irrational idealists, naïve simpletons, typical branding nitwits – in not so many words – and much more besides.

But we also had many more people who really saw the light, including several of the many hundred thousand visitors who came to all our various sites since we launched – and that’s not including the several thousand blogs that picked up on our story and blogged and blogged and blogged. But enough of the waffle, here’s what everyone has been waiting for …

THANK YOU'S

We'd obviously like to thank everyone that submitted ideas, suggestions, comments and criticism and we'd also like to say a very special thank you to Diane Treat, Gabriel Eid, Derek O'Connor, Alex Freund, Jeanne Verdoux, Michael Ross, Boris Bencic, Sandra Hill, John Dowling, Bhavika Parekh and Tim Milne for their individual submissions, help and support. We'd like to say thank you to all the 'mainstream' media channels that actually took us 'seriously,' in particular the FTD, Fox Business News, the Atlantic magazine and Michael Beirut. Plus we'd like to thank  all our friends online especially MinistryOfType.co.uk, DesignBoom.com, and Kottke.org. As well as everyone else we forgot to mention - THANK YOU !

AND FINALLY

Really though it's not just about winning, it's the taking part that counts, especially in this case. The economy might suck and the hole in your pocket is getting bigger and bigger but at least you can consul yourself in the thought there is always hope. Even though our project is now coming to an end, at least for now, we intend to soldier on – come rain or shine, until we succeed.

We wont let the naysayers get us down, we wont let those still clinging to the past hinder us from attaining our objective. Because we really DO believe – despite all the rhetoric – that re-branding and redesigning the Dollar bill, and the mother of all brands, the mighty U.S.A., is still a viable solution to bring us all out of this funk. Besides, sitting on your hands and doing nothing is never going to get US anywhere.

Therefore, as we announce the winners of our ‘competition,' we are also announcing the beginning of the next phase of our campaign - details to come soon - and continue to urge you to still join in and keep sending in your ideas – enough is never enough. We’re not giving up, and HOPE you’re not too.

 Happy 4th of July everyone.

Bianca V Bernardi : Thank You!

"My inspiartion was the reaction of people when they receive money. It s a grateful 'Thank you' that starts off silent with small bills and increases step by step. Ths US currency stands for the people and the economy and everytime you pass on money it deserves a Thank you. The bills vary in  prominent and detailed features. The increasing Thank you in different colors and the Dollar signs according to the bill."

"The overarching concept is to capture various forms/ideas of 'liberty' [20] Liberty Enlightening the World (aka Statue of Liberty): Iconic as a symbol, it provides liberty and light to all people of our nation. The sonnet by Emma Lazarus ("Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free") is juxtaposed over Lady Liberty. [50] Abraham Lincoln: Considered one of the greatest presidents in U.S. history, Lincoln declares liberty to all slaves. The Emancipation Proclamation is shown. [100] Washington Crossing the Delaware: George Washington was a commander during the American Revolutionary War and often referred to as the father of his country. The crossing of the Delaware River was pivotal in defining liberty and our identity as a free nation. Additional Details: Lower Left: Holographic stripes emulating the American flag. Diagonal Band: 13 stars for the 13 original colonies."

To Infinity and Beyond - $pace ... The Final Frontier?

Space scientists have taken the future of our global financial meltdown into their own hands and have come up with a new form of currency which has been designed especially for those long galactic voyages. The Quasi Universal, or Quids, as they are called, were designed for Travelex, a foreign exchange company, by the National Space Center at the University of Leicester, England.

On the basis that “Earth” money effectively will be no good in outer space –  because of ‘risky’ sharp edges and ‘fatal’ cosmic radiation – Leicester University Professor, George Fraser, told BBC News, “With an inflatable space hotel under development in the US, and Virgin Galactic developing Space Ship Two, there will be better access to space than there has been. In the fullness of time we will have to adopt a universal currency if we are going to carry out serious commerce in space.” Perhaps this is the one giant economic leap for mankind we’ve all been waiting for ... read more here ... http://tinyurl.com/3alxuh

Community 'Dollars' : Mark Herpel

“My concept is community currency for local areas branded with their logo and backed by silver. It's not a Dollar but this will be in legal use in America later this year on a small scale. We have not only changed the design of money but also its intrinsic value for use in a local community alongside the Dollar.”
