It's Time to ReBrand the Buck

Dollar Coins are Bad : A 'Conspiracy'?

Edgar, via email, said ...
“They should just get rid of the Dollar bill and replace it with the Dollar coin. The one Dollar bill wears out very quickly and it is actually very expensive to reprint every year. But the reason they haven't eliminated the Dollar bill is because the lobby for the paper they make Dollar bills from has pushed to keep the one Dollar bill in circulation. Around 2000, when the Sacagawea Dollar coin was released, there was going to be a commercial showing someone trying to use a Dollar bill at a vending machine and failing constantly while someone else just drops in a Dollar coin with great ease. However, the Dollar paper lobby nixed this idea by inserting a clause into the Congressional bill (that authorized the campaign) to make sure any advertising wouldn’t show the coin as ‘superior’ to the bill in any way.”

Sandra Hill : The Currency of Dreams

"In this idea, each note would show something American, something iconic, shot through the number of the bill. It could be iconic buildings, objects, people ... anything which communicates the idea of the 'American Dream'."

Money Talks ! A Plea From Bill (not Clinton)

Dear Richard,

Thank you for getting in touch.

You’re right, the economy really sucks, I’m so tired of everyone talking about recession, recession, recession, and every day the news being filled with so many stories of bankruptcies, closures, the credit crunch, the housing crisis and so many people with much, much, much trouble and strife. It saddens my heart, deeply.

What this country needs is a new vision, a new purpose, something to believe in again, something to HOPE for, dare I say CHANGE on a very simple level. Re-branding the United States is possibly the only way to make that happen and starting with redesigning ‘old greenback’ is a great start. At least it would give everyone something to talk about, as I see a lot of here and online. It’s clear people really need a distraction, especially now the election is over and done with!

But seriously we need a catalyst to get ‘me’ going again. Thank you for trying, the rest of the family appreciates the effort as well, little Penny says hi btw.

We’re all looking forward to seeing how this all pans out.

Yours truly

Bill ‘Dollar’ Greenback

But Seriously : What About Braille on Dollar bills?

Dennis, the Netherlands, via email, said ...
“Before the very ugly Euro was introduced, we had the Dutch Guilder in Holland. This was one of the most beautiful and awarded designs ever produced. Something I miss very much are the Braille symbols the Guilder used, which differentiated each note. The Netherlands was (as far as I know) the only country that used Braille to help the blind better recognize their money more easily. When you redesign the dollar please don’t forget about the disabled people. The illustration shows how the same method used on the Guilder could be applied to the Dollar bill.”
